BAUHAUS.

I like the shapes and the asymmetry of costumes that where designed by Oscar Schlemme  for ''Triadischen Ballet'' 1922

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec

I really like work like this.

That which concentrates on shapes layering to create detail; interest and depth.

Week three - Rule based art, a bit bigger - Part 5 - A structure...

This piece was the result of me merging my structure with another's structure.

Its swirling lines that flow around the female form remind me of work by Chris Natrop.

I like the incredible, lace like detail of his work. it just feels so light and fluid yet very real ? there is a clear high concentration of work that goes on in his pieces.

TOM FORD.

I am also obsessed with Tom Ford. everything he does reeks of sex; desire; aspiration.

The same sort of things I try to evoke in my designs.

And this skirt is another inspiring image.

LANVIN.

I have a bit of an obsession with that which is Asymmetrical...
And has a frill...
And is black...

But this skirt reminds me of the 'hip' I created out of brown paper...

Week three - Rule based art, a bit bigger - Part 4...A skirt ?

This was my first set of rules, the set that involved a circle.

For the sake of interest, I decided to use brown paper and see how that worked...

Of course I still molded and shaped of the stand...

I really like what happened. It could be a detail on a very tight pencil skirt...
or a bias cut slinky skirt

I could have tried it on the shoulder ? on the back ? on the bum as a bustle ?

I never...

but i can explore these in my design Ideas.

Wednesday

Yves Saint Laurent blouse....

Week three - Rule based art, a bit bigger - Part 3...This is one of my favorites

Its like a ribbon looping over and under

Harsh yet delicate with the flowing and looping parts

This structure reminds me of blouses designed by Yves Saint Laurent, one of my inspirations. Its the Feminine/Masculine mix.

Week three - Rule based art, a bit bigger - Part 2

I really like the sharp, Asymmetrical structure

This I don't like as much, It looks very crudely done and doesn't have the look of refinement that id want and have seen in other structures u have created. This could be a good thing though, it might push one towards more questioning and developing and being creative ?

Week three - Rule based art, a bit bigger

This week I used my shape from last week to scale up into a size that would be able to be placed onto a stand to provide endless creative and innovative design ideas.

these could then be developed or changed where needed.

I chose my second shape that I created with my second set of rules:

Start with a square
Add a square
Take a triangle
Add a triangle

I created numerous different structures. some worked and some did not.

Week two - 2D to 3D

This week I undertook a workshop based on Rule based art.

this involved configuring a set of rules to stick by when drawing/creating shapes.

My rules were start with a square, take a triangle, add a circle, take away a square and finally, add a rectangle. This was perhaps a little ambitious, but it produced some very interesting results.

After this I decided to create a new set of rules. These involved me starting with a square, add a square, take a triangle and then add a triangle.

This again produced some interesting results.

Monday

Week one - 3D to 2D

This week, I felt was about taking a 3D form and translating it to 2D. Creating interesting and innovative shapes that flowed around the female human form.

This was achieved through wrapping a dress stand in paper and sellotape to give a 'Second skin' that could be drawn onto.

Lots of flowing lines helped manipulate darts to create something streamlined.

After the shapes had been drawn, we added notches to allow the pieces to be realigned when  they have been translated to 2D pattern pieces.

This then led to the removing of the form from the stand and then being separated into their individual pieces.

This was the part I have found most difficult. I have not cut patterns before, so this has been a learning experience for me.

After the translation to 2D, we experimented with the shapes in other ways, aligning them in different ways to create new shapes and ultimately creative Fashion Designs.
