Week one - 3D to 2D

This week, I felt was about taking a 3D form and translating it to 2D. Creating interesting and innovative shapes that flowed around the female human form.

This was achieved through wrapping a dress stand in paper and sellotape to give a 'Second skin' that could be drawn onto.

Lots of flowing lines helped manipulate darts to create something streamlined.

After the shapes had been drawn, we added notches to allow the pieces to be realigned when  they have been translated to 2D pattern pieces.

This then led to the removing of the form from the stand and then being separated into their individual pieces.

This was the part I have found most difficult. I have not cut patterns before, so this has been a learning experience for me.

After the translation to 2D, we experimented with the shapes in other ways, aligning them in different ways to create new shapes and ultimately creative Fashion Designs.
